Geospatial Technologies for Disaster Management

The emerging field of disaster management requires effective solutions and approaches that allow for efficient and reliable access to spatial data for the purpose of protecting life and property. Timely access to and sharing of accurate information for the purpose of disaster mitigation, prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery have proven to be a challenge in many recent disasters. This has raised new challenges and opportunities for the geospatial information research community. To provide an up-to-date review of advances in recent development on the utilization of earth observation and geoinformation for disaster management, a special issue of International Journal of Applied Earth Observation and Geoinformation dedicated to both theoretical and practical issues will be published in Vol. 11, No. 4, 2009.
Papers for the special issue are solicited to cover the following topics:
- Interoperable solutions for disaster and emergency management
- Geo-ontology and semantics for emergency response
- Spatial sensor web for risk and disaster monitoring
- 3D visualization of scenes and situations on different mobile front-ends
- P2P geospatial web services for emergency response
- Spatial decision support systems for disaster management
- Multidimensional dynamic simulation in support of disaster management
- Exploratory visualization for multi-hazard risk assessment
- Real-time 3D GIS for emergency response
- SDI stakeholder involvement in disaster management operations.
We aim to limit this special issue at maximum of 15 papers each manuscript maximum 5000 words, five figures, and three tables. All manuscripts must follow the Guide for Authors (found at http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/journaldescription.cws_home/622741/authorinstructions) and will be peer-reviewed in accordance with journal policy.
The deadline for submission of manuscripts is June 30, 2009.
